BOOK COVER DESIGN The 13th Planet
The 13th Planet is a novel by Ellie Shoja. As a piece of prophetic science fiction, it follows the journey of an unlikely hero who is tasked with saving Earth from its own destruction. It offers a reflection on how individual responsibility intertwines with the collective duty to be better and do more as our Planet withers beneath the toll we put her through. The book promotes the urgency of self enlightenment and curiosity, and of waking up to personal authenticity.
I worked with the brilliantly wise Ellie to ascertain a cover that evokes the main themes of the book and inspires non-science fiction readers to get curious and pick it up. We devised a montage of stock photography that alluded to the notion of space being the great mystery beyond ourselves—but which we actually see reflected within—and combined it with clean typography for balance.
